It can be very confusing to differentiate one manufacturer’s offerings from another. At Motion Shading, we deal with seven different manufacturers because they all have their strengths and weaknesses. This means we are in the rare position to help compare shading systems. In this post, we’ll explore a common comparison between Lutron and Crestron roller shades.
The Similarities
While both companies offer multiple types of shading solutions, Lutron and Crestron specialize in roller shades. Both also offer hundreds of choices of fabrics in each category: blackout, privacy, and sheer. Lutron and Crestron also have the highest quality motors on the market. Each provides near-silent operation for your automated shades.
The Differences
Both Lutron and Crestron offer warranties for their roller shades. While Lutron’s warranty is limited to eight years, Crestron’s warranty lasts for a lifetime. As stated above both companies have the highest quality motors, so don’t confuse their warranties with how well they work. To give you an idea as to the quality of these shades; we regularly run into Lutron shades that have been in use for over 20 years.
When it comes to cost there is enough of a difference between the two that it’s worth mentioning. Again, they both specialize in top-of-the-line roller shades. Crestron, however, regularly comes in at a lower price point than Lutron.
One potential drawback to Crestron shades is that their software only works within their ecosystem. So, choosing Crestron shades is likely not the best option if you own a different home automation system. While it’s possible to have Crestron working in the same home as another automation system it means you’ll have two apps and your shading system wouldn’t communicate with the rest of your home. Lutron, on the other hand, integrates with all other systems which means their roller shades will work seamlessly with your existing or future home automation.
By now you’re probably starting to understand why we deal with different manufacturers. While any of these companies could be the perfect fit for you, everyone has different needs for their windows.
Lutron is a great option for automated roller shades. With their offerings, you’ll be able to enjoy your shades for decades while maintaining the ability to expand into a home automation system in the future.
